Hello SLP Middle School Families,
We hope you enjoyed Healthy Topics Newsletters!  Our dream is that these newsletters spark
conversation with your middle schooler.  We welcome your feedback and hope that you connect
in some way with these monthly “newsletters”.
March’s hot health topic is...getting ready for physical activity/exercising at home!

During these unprecedented times, we Physical Education teachers encourage everyone to

stay active and to continue exercising at home. As a part of our "Distance Learning Adventure,"
your child will be participating in daily workout challenges via Schoology. We hope that although
your child may not be able to participate in large group sports at this time, they can still stay
active, healthy, fit and happy thanks in some part, to these daily workouts.
(Maybe you could join them, too ; ) )

Things to talk about with your child to prepare for working out at home...

  • Make sure that you have a safe place to do the workouts--living room/bedroom/basement or just a nice level floor surface should work well.  Move the clutter and furniture...it's dangerous!  (Make sure animals are also in a safe place)
  • Set a scheduled time for the workouts and set goals for yourself.
  • Plan to workout with a sibling or other family member if you can...groups no larger than 10 people.
  • Encourage each other and push yourself to do your best with the workouts.
  • Remember to hydrate (with water) and eat healthy foods to keep your immune system at top capacity.
